Eric Bunn

Instructor

Eric Bunn developed a strong interest in Woodcarving/Woodworking while studying Industrial Design at Auburn University in the mid 1970’s.  After graduating and moving to northern NJ in the late 70’s he discovered a little-known Woodcarving School in Wayne NJ called the American Woodcarving School and began studying woodcarving under the guidance of Mike Denike, artist and founder of the school.

During the 1980’s Eric co-founded a woodcarving/woodworking company called Creative Craftsman in Paterson, NJ.  One of the items the company produced was a line of hand carved carousel animals on rockers for children.  The carousel horses and figures mimicked the style and construction techniques of early US carousel manufacturers.

In 1990 Eric and business partner Mike Holst purchased the American Woodcarving School and ran a successful school and carving business there until 2006, at which time he sold the business to the current owner.  Eric taught many of the classes in woodcarving as well as expanding the curriculum to include life sculpture classes, having an avid interest himself in sculpture.

In 2007 Eric began studying European Woodcarving at the Geislor Moroder Woodcarving School in Elbigenalp Austria.  Having a strong interest in figurative sculpture, Eric adopted much of his current teaching style from years of study at Geislor Moroder studying under masters of the art.  Eric also organizes annual trips to the school as one of the US representatives for the Austrian School.

Eric now brings his 45 years of woodcarving and teaching experience to the New Jersey School of Woodworking in Washington NJ teaching everything from Ornamental Carving to Human Figure.
